![]() Click to enlarge Our terrific logo comes compliments of I-28 owner Pandora Nash-Karmer who run a graphic design & marketing company called Pandora & Company, and has done the logos for the Canadian All-Islander rendezvous as well. Look for it to be popping up on various items at the rendezvous! Introduction If you were with us last year you saw the 26 boats at the docks, and marveled at the stories of the 90 folks who represented 50 Islanders. what a great way to spend a weekend! So this year we're aiming for 40 boats at the docks and who knows how many total that arrive by air or car. Working with both the Oakland and Encinal Yacht Clubs, the plan looks like this: Arrive Friday night if possible - dinner at the Oakland Yacht Club. Saturday, arrive early, we have a special Islander guest speaker, then it's an afternoon fun race, with the cruisers as spectators - Season Championship racers are invited to come too. Then dinner at Encinal Yacht Club, and finally, a Sunday breakfast at Oakland YC to finish it off. For those who have not spent time looking at other Islanders, you will be amazed at the variety of styles and the ingenuity with which owners have added great gadgets and conveniences to their boats. Here's the list of boats represented last year:
Why it's just like an All Islander Boat Show! So, even if you decide not to come by boat, you can come watch the Saturday Fun Race, see all the boats and join us for dinner. Let's see how big the numbers can get. The Estuary is a great place for sunshine and fair winds, and with Oakland and Encinal Yacht Clubs right next to each other, there's room for up to 40 boats. Right from the two clubs, you can watch those intrepid racers ply the sheltered waters around a couple of marks to provide great grist for bragging rights at the bar and dinner following. Can the sporty I-30s beat the intrepid I-36s on corrected time? Maybe we'll find a fast and sneaky I-28 that runs away with it, or maybe a big I-40 will take the prize. Read all the details below, then fill in your reservation form and send it in. Don't worry if you think you might make changes or add to your crew list later on, just get that reservation in. We will probably set the maximum number of reservations at 40 boats at the docks, so first registered, first served. Here's what we and the Canadians looked like last year: All Islander 2007 and Genoa Bay 2007. You may have noticed Pandora's great logos managed to on shirts, hats, coasters, and even wine bottles!!! The easiest way to get a T Shirt is to simply order yours in the Reservation Form below. Heck, order one for each of your crew! If you want to customize something, you can download the logo, then print it on an iron-on transfer page, and apply it to shirts or other items. Here's a link to a file big enough to give you a pretty good image on most anything: 3.7 Mb Logo. For the really creative, here's a link to a page of logos for different size Islanders: Islander logos. Details Friday, September 12th Arrive Friday afternoon or evening, gathering dockside to chat and meet friends old and new. Perhaps a nibble or beverage might be available from the friendliest boats! Dock space will be available at both Oakland and Encinal, with the earliest arrivers getting their pick of space. Dock space at Oakland is $15 per night (you will need to sign in and get an electronic dock key, there is a $20 deposit on the key); Enicnal is $15 for the weekend (Friday & Saturday) night, plus $15 for additional nights. We generally keep a radio watch on VHF Channel 72 so approaching boats can contact the fleet for directions or docking assistance. 1830 hours - Dinner at Oakland Yacht Club is available with entrees in the range of $12 - 22. We will be enjoying their regular Friday night service. Bar service is available, and your business is appreciated. Saturday, September 13th For the big day, plan to arrive on the early side. Though we should be able to handle up to 40 boats, that will include rafting for about half that number. There are no special plans for lunch. You can take a dip in Encinal's great pool if you like. 1300 - 1430 - We've got a great speaker lined up to share some fun Islander history. Once one of the largest Islander dealers, Rich Worstell had just about every Islander model on display at Cedar Mills Marina in Texas. 1430 - 1630 hours - Skippers meeting at Encinal, then our Fun Race will begin about 1500 hours. Some simple sailing instructions and a course chart will be available (here) as we get closer to the event. We may be able to work out a way for those who want to try the race to hold their dockside berths. The Fun Race will be about an hour long, and could involve multiple starts if we have lots of both large and small Islanders signed up to race. 1730 hours - Cocktails at Encinal Yacht Club. Enjoy their fine bar upstairs. Look out over the deck at your crack Islander Chefs cooking up your dinner on the grill by the pool. You may bring an appetizer to share in the bar area -- gets folks to have an extra drink! 1830 hours - Then we'll all head downstairs to the spacious lower deck Regatta room where our Islander Chefs will deliver perfectly grilled burgers & chicken to go with Encinal's sides - green salad and dressings, baked beans, plus cole slaw, potato salad, water and iced tea. Your Association is providing a special dessert! The price will be (Estimated)$20.00 per person (which covers our use of Encinal's facilities, the sides, the dessert, and the information packets with name tages for each boat), or $25.00 if you want wine with dinner. Sunday, September 14th For Sunday morning it's back to the Oakland YC for a nice breakfast served from about 0830 to 1000. Choices range from $6 - $12. Reservations If you are thinking of attending this event, please use the reservation form below. We are planning to make up a boat information sheet for each boat to hang on your lifelines with the information in the Reservation and Information Form below. For more information you can check out web sites for Oakland Yacht Club, or Encinal Yacht Club, or the convenient Marina Village Inn situated between the two clubs. For our friends who wish they could join us but can't make it this time, send in the form with the appropriate box checked and we'll share your thoughts at the rendezvous, and hope you can make it another time. We had perhaps a dozen boats that went this route in 2007. ______________________________________________________________________ For additional detail or questions, contact event Coordinators Rick & Sandy Van Mell Vanishing Animal 650-962-1515 |
