Lucky 13th it certainly was. Close to a record 90 people showed up for our last Potluck of the year. Despite having to move to the picnic tables at the Bubb School classrooms, everyone had a good time. Some even liked it better there! Our 15 attending Canine friends appreciated keeping kids and food closer to them!!!
It was a wonderful, warm way to wrap up another year of Potlucks In The Park. Janet Sloan gets credit for the catchy "Something Ghoulish" theme, and many participated with vigor. Just look below for such delicacies as "Witches' Fingers", "Whipped Casper" and Cat Litter Cake".
Brand new and almost new babies made their first potluck appearances - Randi & Jeff had Zoe dressed in her Halloween outfit, and Alexis & Allen brought weeks-old Avery. I guess they wanted them to get used to being near Bubb classrooms!
Of course they got plenty of advice from all the moms present.
One of the greatest things about our BPMDS potlucks is the range of ages and experience we all bring to each other. Sally & Lyle Sechrest, neighborhood residents for something approaching 40 years, had two of their grandchildren there. And the rest ranged from pre-schoolers through teenagers. Many enjoyed finding their 5th grade Bubb teacher Kim Thompson there too.
So we wrapped up another year of Potlucks. It's hard to say if any one is any better than the others, but this one was sure fun, and we'll be happy to carry its spirit through the winter until we begin again next March or April. Beginning in 2007, Daylight Savings Time will begin at 2:00 am on the second Sunday of March (the 11th) and end the first Sunday of November (the 4th).
A final thanks to Jack Smith of City Parks for helping us change venues at the last minute. We'll have nice new pathways in the park for next year. (Say Jack, any chance of getting some of those nice picnic tables in the Mushroom Tables area? We'll even find volunteers to repaint the old chess/checkerboard pattern, and the shuffleboard court! - bet some of you didn't even know they were there!)
