Fall Meeting & Winners' Dinner
Saturday, November 1, 2008
Oakland Yacht Club

It's a wonderful way to have a great dinner and wrap up a season. Shed the foul weather gear, get dressed up a bit and enjoy the company of the skippers and crews you've sailed with all year. It's time for Owners, Crew and Special Guests to celebrate at the Fall Meeting & Winners' Dinner, Saturday evening, November 1st at the Oakland Yacht Club.

All of our racing and cruising skippers will be recognized, and the racing winners and devoted cruises will get their special awards. If that's not enough, we'll be awarding door prizes throughout the evening - saving the best for last!
Special Door Prizes:
1. A one week stay in a Waterfront condo on Ma'alaea Bay on Maui courtesy of Rick Vulliet
2. A two-night stay at the Front 30 Ranch Guest House Bed & Breakfast at Lake Texoma, Texas, courtesy of Bill & Terry Ray
3. A three-nights stay at the Shea's Tahoe Donner Cabin, courtesy of Tim & Rhonda Shea

Docking will be at Marina Village for $20 for the weekend (Friday & Saturday), because Oakland's docks are in reconstruction.

Owners, mark your calendars, fill in the reservation form below, then tell your spouse or First Mate this is the best way to say "Thank You" for putting up with you all season! Then, forward a link to this page to each of your crew.

Crew, here's the deal. If your Skipper's other boat is a Farr 40, then the skipper should pay for all the long, wet hours and (maybe) verbal abuse you endured so the skipper could get the glory. On the other hand, each of you might consider the yard bills, entry fees, lunches, new sails & gear, and broken gear (you didn't have anything to do with the way that boom snapped) that your skipper swallowed so you could say you race on San Francisco Bay. Then you, dear crew, could collectively pick up the tab for your Skipper & First Mate. At the very least, you should bring your own best friend and attend Dutch Treat - after all the skippers couldn't have gotten the boat around the course without you, so you deserve recognition too. Besides, just think how much fun it will be to talk with other crews and find out what kind of a skipper that other guy really is anyway.

Other Islander Owners & Non-Resident Members, here's your chance to visit the Bay Area and have some fun. You've been talking about, maybe even promising your spouse or First Mate, that, "One of these days, we ought to go to San Francisco and experience one of these things." Well, procrastinate no longer. If you ever wanted to come, this is a good one. Tourist crowds are gone. Hotel rates are reasonable (remember all those friends who said, "Come out and stay with us," - bring them.) A convenient place to stay is the Marina Village Inn located right next to the Oakland Yacht club.

Arrive Friday evening - it's easy coming west. Enjoy Saturday morning doing the tourist thing along Fisherman's Wharf, Pier 39, and don't miss the Hyde Street Pier with the square rigger Balclutha on the San Francisco side, then tour Jack London Square on the Oakland side before coming to the Oakland Yacht Club (on Alameda Island!). OK, enough of the glitz. If the weather cooperates (it could be nice in the mid-60s) we'll get you sailing on San Francisco Bay in sight of, or even under, the Golden Gate. Then settle in for a great dinner and entertainment. Got your attention? Here are some links to web sites with the unvarnished truth about the local waterfront: Oakland Yacht Club , and Jack London Square , and http://gocalifornia.about.com/cs/sanfrancisco/a/sffishwharf.htm. Now, make a reservation and we'll see you there.

One way to make it a really special weekend is to arrive Friday evening to socialize on the boats and maybe have a casual potluck dinner or enjoy Oakland YC's fine menu. Continue with a relaxed day on Saturday - hey, if we get as many out-of-town members to show up as we'd like and the weather is good we can take them for a sail on San Francisco Bay. Ladies get to change into their evening clothes in the comfort of the Oakland Yacht Club, and gentlemen are requested to wear slacks and a blazer, tie optional. Enjoy the evening, then retire to your boat without a care and no driving to do.
