Half Moon Bay Labor Day Cruise
|
Here's your chance to get in some ocean sailing. Many poeple don't realize that the winds outside the Gate are often much nicer than the funnel going through the Gate. Besides, what better way to travel outside the Gate than with a bunch of Islanders nearby to show you the way, or lend a hand if necessary. We can keep a radio watch together on channel 72. It's an easy 25 miles outside the Gate to HMB. The Plan Our traditional sail to Half Moon Bay begins on Saturday August 31st at 1000 hours from north of Treasure Island. The fleet will have favorable tides once we get out of the Bay and turn to port and south. The Saturday night and Sunday night events are no host parties at the HMB Yacht Club with food, beverages and music. You can check out Half Moon Bay Yacht Club events on their web site: HMB Yacht Club. Sunday evening could also be a dinner at Mezza Luna which has always been a favorite! Potluck lunches and dinners are always an option once you are moored in the first come first served inner harbor. Make your selection in the options below. Monday is Labor Day and we have many options including a sail north if you must work the next day! Optional Plan John Melton is proposing an Optional Plan to sail to Monterey Bay leaving Wednesday afternoon August 28 and arriving in MOnterey Thursday morning. His idea is that this is a mini version of a Baha Ha Ha run, and would be a good experience. He would then sail to Santa Cruz harbor on Friday, then an early start on Saturday morning heading for Half Moon Bay to join up with the fleet. PLEASE contact John ASAP if you're interested, otherwise see below for the registration form for the options on the traditional sail cruise! There are lots of moorings in the Half Moon Bay outer harbor, and there might be space in the inner harbor, but both mooring balls and dock space is on a first-come-first served basis - no reservations. Check with the Pillar Point Harbormaster at (650) 726-4382, or on VHF 16/68 if you are interested. You can call or radio in to see about slip availability when about an hour from arrival, and if there's one available, the Harbor Master could assign one over the air. The Half Moon Bay YC docks are a hoot, and it is quite a fun "haul" to get ashore. It should be another great weekend of fun and relaxation for the Islander group. Make your Reservation now.
