I-36 InterNationals Regatta
|
Patriots of our global community, now is the time to rally forth to the Islander 36 Association's first ever InterNationals Regatta on August 24 & 25, 2013. It's our traditional Nationals Regatta, adapted for this very special sailing season. Across the Bay that weekend the Louis Vuitton Cup winner may be decided. That will be the boat and country to challenge Oracle for the America's Cup. Be a part, enjoy the excitement in one of the worlds most prestigious sailing theatres & have fun with the people you know! Normally each boat just races under its own name. In concert with the America's Cup theme, each boat entering is to pick a country to represent, and to fly that flag in addition to the I-36 or other Islander burgee. This may be easy if the skipper or several crew have a common nationality. Otherwise, you can dig into the roots of your family tree and be a bit creative. Of course you can represent the good old USA too. This is not exclusive, so there can be more than one boat flying a country flag, and we'll have USA I, USA II etc. Keeper prizes will be awarded after racing. We're enhancing the excitement of our I-36 Nationals Regatta with an invitation to all Islanders to participate. We would LOVE to have you come in from abroad or otherwise outside the Bay Area to join us. If you always wondered why the Islander 36s became the classic Bay Area racing and cruising boat, this is your chance to find out. There will be crew positions available for both local and Non-Resident skippers who don't race their own boat. Boats may be available from our I-36 Members for owners who regularly race in their home waters to skipper a boat in this regatta. If that's of interest, make that choice on the Entry Form and add an explanation of your racing activity in the Comments section. Islanders of different lengths and non-members of the Islander 36 Association are welcome to enter - as long as you have an Islander. Different Islander lengths will be rated for the races based on PHRF. Non-members pay an additional $40 for the race fee (yearly Association membership is $50.) There's something here for everyone - racers and cruisers. The racers get to choose if they are in the Spinnaker or Non-Spinnaker Division - and they can choose after the start simply by flying a spinnaker! Cruisers, enter the Cruising Division. We've got a shorter course for you and you can consider this simply a cruising exercise - how do I get from one port to another while avoiding some rocks - Harding Rock and Angel Island - while enjoying spectacular views of the Bay and Louis Vuitton racing! If desired, we might even be able to put an experienced skipper aboard to help you around the course. Choose the appropriate radio button below if this is your choice. If you'd like to crew on a boat during the Islander InterNationals, select that radio button and add a short comment about your interest. Our event Coordinator will circulate the names of crew volunteers among the skippers and you might find yourself aboard a race boat. What a great way to learn about racing! If you'd just like to come out on your own boat to cheer the racers on and bring along familes and firends to watch the fun, fine too. You can even just come by car and watch the start from Sausalito YC, or come for the party - or both. If you're willing, you can check the option to take some spectators along (if there are any.) In any case, just come! We have moorings available at SYC for free and are in contact with local marinas to have slips available for an overnight fee (tbd), Further, you can pick up your crew at SYC Saturday morning during breakfast and we'll have rides for them back to their cars after the race if you don't bring them from your home port. So sign up below, mark that calendar and make it a date - the Islander InterNationals - inspired by the America's Cup.
