July 4th Weekend Cruise
|
|
Back by VERY POPULAR demand is a great weekend sailing into the wine country and tying up at Past Commodore Tim & Rhonda Shea's wonderful house on the Napa River. It's a wonderful setting, great hospitality, fine pool (pack your bathing suit), and a real change of pace from a yacht club cruise. If you're going to make a cruise, this is one of the best. Every year Tim would like to see 20 boats, so don't be shy! Read about the fun, then make your reservation. Laurie & Smokey are Co-Coordinators for this event, so you know that means really fun things for the kids to do. So round up kids and grandchildren, and come along. Thursday, July 3th - Early Bird Special - Southampton Shoal to Vallejo YC For the Early Bird crowd, here's a chance to stretch the weekend to four days. Meet at Southampton Shoal at noon. The developing wind and favorable current should have us at the Vallejo YC at around 1500. We will plan a pot luck dinner there with use of their BBQ. Then we will be the vanguard for the rest of the group coming up on Friday. Friday, July 4th - Southampton Shoal to Napa Gather promptly at Southampton Shoal at 1030 to catch a flood up to Mare Island Straits, past Vallejo and up the Napa River to the Shea's house in Napa. Monitor VHF Channel 72. We should arrive between 1530 and 1700. We will Med tie to their dock, which accomodates about 8 or even 9 boats. Plus, there is a guest dock across from the house that can hold four more, plus possible neighbor docks too. We'll plan on BYO cocktails and a potluck dinner on the Shea's patio beginning around 1700 Friday after arrival. Tim will BBQ hamburgers and hot dogs . Cruisers should be prepared with cocktail nibbles and a pot luck dish to add. Since the Fireworks are on Friday, people can choose to dinghy up river to view the show, or Tim is thinking of having everyone head down their street to the community park to view the show which should be visible from that vantage point. Another idea is to train all the dinghies behind Tim's power boat and head up river. In any case, Tim recommends folks bring their dinghies to explore the wonderful wetlands around the area. Saturday - Play time and Western Night BBQ at Tim & Rhonda's Here are some ideas on Tim's list of things to do: Copia Center for Food and Arts Wine Tasting downtown Napa River Adventures (electric boat tour around the river area. I can probably get a discount from the operator if I get a count of who would like to take the trip) Spa package discount if there is any interest Tour of Annettes Chocolates Hot Air Ballon tours (early morning departure, but many times they go over or near our house. What a photo op of the boats!! ) Fishing Tim thoughts for the day include running a shuttle to Napa so people can be dropped off at Copia or Downtown for wine tasting, spa, etc. Also, people can dingy around the area, whatever. This will give people a chance to play while Tim & Rhonda get everything ready for a feast around 5:00 pm. "Western Night" on the Shea Ranch. Y'all need to dust off those Cowboy/Cowgirl duds and dress real purdy. Talk around these here parts is that "Sheriff Timothy Shea" will be fix'n up some fine grub for the town folk. Outlaws just keep com'n back for more of his famous wet BBQ chicken. "Marshall Smokey Stover" and "Miss Laurie Ann" are ask'n y'all to bring your best finger lick'in chow to share with the town folk. That there includes horses hoovers, and yer favorite brand of sasparilla. Miss Laurie Ann will keep the young'uns busy with gold pan'in and ice cream makin. Marshal Smokey has a new six shooter to try out. Any volunteers? And y'all ain't gona wana miss the watermelon seed spit'n contest! Yep, we gota dandy evening in store. And we'd like if y'alll would fix'n to reach into your pockets and remember to donate to Rev. Ian and Sister Rhonda's Salvation House of Rehabilitated Outlaws. A donation of $25/per boat would be much obliged. See ya there, partner! Sunday - Return to the Bay. There's good news and bad news. The good news is that you can ride an ebb all the way down to the main Bay, or even into the South Bay if you're going there. The bad news is we have to leave at 0630 to be sure to have enough water to get out of the Napa River. So plan on breakfast on your own boat under way. If you'd like to stay longer, or plan to go on to the Delta, and don't want to leave at 0630, you'll probably have to wait to depart until about 1400 to have comfortable water under you. It's about 2.5 hours on the Napa River between Tim's and Vallejo. So don't wait, get your reservation in early and plan to have a fine weekend. You can have family members meet you at the Shea's if you like, or even come by car. It's really fun. More questions?
