I-36 Nationals Regatta
|
Admiral Bob DaPrato and Fleet Measurer Kit Wiegman's Call To Arms! Our Nationals Regatta is coming up on Saturday, October 5. We would like to encourage everyone to come out and join the fleet for a really fun racing event to wrap up the season. Whether you realize it or not we are one of the most respected and longest lasting fleets in the San Francisco Bay. You would be hard pressed to find anybody who does not appreciate the sailing qualities of our amazing boats and the longevity of our fleet. I have had several long time sailors who regularly race in other fleets express interest in our Nationals Regatta. This is THE event of the year! Here's a chance for all of you who haven't raced this year in our series to get in one last day of racing before the season ends. We are once again racing in clear view of the Golden Gate Bridge at the fabulous Golden Gate Yacht Club. Join us and show that you haven't lost any of that pizazz. And the cruisers get some choices too. First, why not come out and try your hand at a fun race! We'll talk you through the process and help you find crew if you need some. If you'd like to crew on a boat during the Nationals, select the radio button below and add a short comment about your interest. Our Regatta Coordinator will circulate the names of crew volunteers among the skippers and you might find yourself aboard a race boat. What a great way to learn about racing! Second, you can come out on your own boat to cheer the racers on and bring along families and friends to watch the fun. You can come by car and watch from GGYC, or come for the party some time after about 1530. In any case, just come! Everyone is invited to join in the Nibbles & Celebration at Golden Gate after the finish. A no host bar and buffet ($25 per person including tax and tip) will be available. We are aiming for a minimum of 6 boats and 30 reservations to make it a viable regatta, so get your reservations in quickly. Additional participants are obviously welcomed and encouraged! So mark your calendar and make it a date - Saturday October 5, the Nationals Regatta at Golden Gate YC. Here are the details: There will be at least two races on Saturday, with a third if there is a tie after two races. Check in upon arrival in the starting area via Channel 71 The first race Warning Signal will be at 1130. To encourage more participation, we're going non-spinnaker this year, and we will give some rating credits to encourage participation as follows: Rating adjustments: Fixed 2 blade prop = +10 sec/mi Fixed 3 blade prop = +15 sec/mi Largest headsail 136% or higher = -6 sec/mi Tall rigs = -6 sec/mi Non-Spinnaker - no adjustment Roller furling - no adjustment Boat weight - no allowance for weight differences There is no Entry Fee for existing members. If you want to participate but have been putting off joining the association here is your chance. You can pay $60 and get a membership for the rest of 2024 and all of 2025! What a deal! A minimum of 6 boat entries are required, and to support the Nibbles & Celebration immediately following the race, we are requiring a minimum of 30 reservations at $25 per person. Usually it was Cash or Check only when paying at GGYC, but we plan to have a QR Code at the sign-in desk to take you to this page so you can pay using the PayPal "Donate" button below. It will show up in your account as "I-36 Nationals 2024." If you prefer, you can pre-pay in advance and breeze through the sign-in desk faster. Here are the Notice of Race , and Sailing Instructions All participants need to fill out the I-36 form below. This is important for the Race Committee and for food planning. Docking: We should be able to raft or temporarily tie up all participants for the Nibbles & Celebration party. There are 4 slips available for overnight docking at GGYC for any who wish to stay at GGYC Friday night before the race. Fill in the docking section below and we will coordinate with GGYC - but, this is strictly first come, first served for the 4 slips. The first night docking is free.
