Islander 36 Association 2014 Racing Schedule |
Here is your 2014 Racing Schedule from Fleet Captain Kit Wiegman. Plan to join us for a fun year of racing. Similar to last year, the official I-36 Championship season will include the Yacht Racing Association (YRA) Party Circuit, and the new combined series that merges the old separate One Design, Sport Boat and PHRF series. You will note a few differences from past years. The Vallejo Race is a week earlier than usual - on April 26 & 27th, rather than the first weekend of May. Also, the 2nd Half Opener has been moved back to the first weekend in August from the end of July.
We'll have more information on PHRF ratings for the fleet going into the new year, but in short, we want every Islander to come out and join the race program and, if they feel their boat is enough different from the rest of the fleet, we'll see what rating is more appropriate. We are firming up a page to collect PHRF rating data to contribute to our "Safe, Fun & As Fair As Possible" racing season. We are contacting folks during February, so stay tuned.
For this year's Islander fleet championships, boats will be able to choose whether they want to race with, or without a spinnaker. All boats will start together and points will be totaled however all the boats finish. Boats flying spinnakers will be scored with the lowest score being awarded the Ormand Trophy, and the lowest scoring non-spinnaker boat will be awarded the Hammond Trophy.
While you're waiting for the season to get into full swing, it's also a good idea to read (and reread!) the structure and Sailing Instructions for the YRA One Design Class Association (ODCA) series. A link is: ODCA Instructions..
Thank you,
Kit Wiegman
