2022 Racing Schedule

Here is an almost complete 2022 Racing Schedule from the Board & Measurer Kit Wiegman. Plan to join us for a fun year of racing. Any dates not yet confirmed are identified with "TBC" next to the date.

The season races are listed, followed by the Islander 36 Sailing Instructions for the 2022 season. Races that count for the Season's Championship (Ormand Cup - Spinnaker; Hammon Trophy - Non-Spinnaker) have an "SC" in the number of races column.

Islander 36 Sailing Instructions for the 2022 Season.

For the Islander Fleet, the 2020-2024 Racing Rules of Sailing will be used, but modified as noted below.
The 2022 Season's Championship will consist of 10 TBC races, with 3 throw outs.

Go to this link to register for the Inter Club series: https://jibeset.net/IC000.php?RG=T006516444
The registration fee is $60 if you enter up to April 1st; $75 after April 1st.
If we can get at least 5 boats registered before the first race, we may be able to have our own start -- so let's make that happen!!!
If you don't already have a Jibeset.net account, you will create one with your registration. (Option 2.1)

For all I-36 Season Championship races, a 135% jibs will be standard.

All of the Season's Championship races will be raced with both spinnaker and non-spinnaker scoring. Once a boat flies a spinnaker, it will be scored as a Spinniker Division boat. That means for all races, there can be two boats that are scored 1st, 2nd, 3rd, etc. for the Season's Championship. The Ormand Cup will be awarded to the boat with the lowest score that flew a spinnaker. The Buster Hammond Trophy will be awarded to the Non-Spinnaker boat with the lowest score. The Nationals Regatta is non-spinnaker to encourage new racers to give racing a try.

The standard I-36 PHRF rating of 144 will be the base rating. Ratings will be adjusted as follows, based on the data for that boat on the I-36 web page I-36 PHRF Measurements Input. If your boat is not listed, or the data needs to be updated, email Measurer Kit Wiegman.

Rating adjustments:
Fixed 2 blade prop = +10 sec/mi
Fixed 3 blade prop = +15 sec/mi
Largest headsail greater than 135% will be rated as -x seconds per mile, depending on the size of the headsail.
Standard Tall rigs = -6 sec/mi. Non-standard tall rigs will be rated per standard PHRF adjustments.
Non-Spinnaker - no adjustment
Roller furling - no adjustment
Boat weight - no allowance for weight differences

We are using a modified low point system to encourage more people to join us with one point for first two for second, on down the line. Did Not Finish (DNF) is equal to number of starters for the race plus one. Did Not Compete (DNC) is equal to number of boats entered plus two.

Each participant is allowed three (3) throw outs for the season. For scoring purposes, the first throwout will be counted after the 5th race, the 2nd after 7 races, and the 3rd after 9 races.

These races are sponsored and conducted by individual yacht clubs under the general rules of the YRA and US Sailing. The Islander Association simply has scheduled a start for Islanders in their races and assumes no liability for race events. It is the responsibility of each individual owner to decide if his or her boat and crew are suitable for a given event, and whether to participate, start or continue to race in any event.
