7th Canadian All Islander Rendezvous
|
Every Islander on the southern coast of British Columbia and Puget Sound will want to mark their calendars for the All Islander Rendezvous in Telegraph Harbour Marina on Thetis Island, July 4th - 6th 2014. Bert & Carey Vermeer (s/v Natasha) carry on this great tradition and opportunity to cruise in, meet new friends and swap stories and knowledge about the great Islander boats - yes, that's all sizes and shapes of Islanders. 7th Canadian Islander Rendezvous Introduction Yes, there will be a 7th Canadian Islander Rendezvous in July of 2014. Can you believe it's been almost 10 years since the original 2005 1st Canadian Islander Rendezvous?! And as we only organize one every second year, we will miss 2015 as a 10 year anniversary date. Everyone who participates in these events seems to enjoy the set-up so Carey & I will aim to repeat the tried and true formula, with perhaps some new ideas along the way. If you've been to the previous ones, you know how much fun they are. If you haven't, here are links to the stories and pictures of past years: 2012 at Thetis Island, 2010 at Thetis Island, 2008 at Thetis Island, 2007 at Genoa Bay, 2006 at Thetis Island, 2005 at Thetis Island. The 2014 edition will again be at Telegraph Harbour Marina on Thetis Island. If you’ve never been there have a look at http://www.telegraphharbour.com. An idyllic setting in the beautiful Gulf Islands, a great weekend destination. Moorage rates are listed on the web site. Telegraph Harbour Marina cannot take e-mail reservations as they do not have a secure site for credit card numbers. In addition to the reservation form below, participants will have to make their own dock reservations with Ron Faoro & Tara Kaulback. Call them toll free at 800-246-6011 or fax at 250-246-2668, and be sure to say you are joining the All Islander Rendezvous so you can be grouped with the fleet. If you love the idea, but don't think you can get your boat there, come by car! Several folks have done that and Thetis is a great place to spend a weekend. It's a short ferry ride from Chemainus, and there are many Bed & Breakfast places to stay on the island - some right next to Telegraph Harbor Marina. Here's a link to Thetis Island, and some are listed on the Marina web site. Just like past years, the Islander Rendezvous are very low key events, an informal gathering of Islander owners wishing to meet other Islander owners to share stories and ideas. We don't have major sponsors, we don't have prizes, and no band plays for dancing under the stars. And yet we have a great time every time! Islanders will probably begin gathering on the Friday evening for an informal gathering over a glass of wine. Saturday there are a number of options with most participants meeting other Islander owners and showing off their boats. There is a short ferry ride over to the town of Chemainus if you wish, or a walk along country roads to a local winery. Whatever your desires, we have reserved the pavilion and barbeque for the Saturday evening dinner. As in past years, Carey & I will provide the charcoal and everyone a baked (or stuffed!) potato with fixings, along with the traditional cake desert. To help us reduce waste, please bring up your own plates, cutlery and beverage glasses. We will provide napkins plus desert plates and plasticware. You will want to bring the entree for the barbeque (and it is one GREAT BBQ!) and beverage of choice. To spread the rest of the food load, we ask Islanders 32 feet or smaller to also bring a salad to share with dinner, and Islanders 33 feet and longer to bring an appetizer to start the evening. If you've been to a Canadian Rendezvous, you know how good they can be For Sunday morning we’ll have the coffee urn fired up nice and early along with sticky buns and muffins, or maybe a potluck breakfast. As always, we’re going to try to keep the costs to a minimum. There will be contribution fee per boat to cover our reservation for the pavilion, charcoal, sides and dessert. In the past this has been in the $20 - $25 range. We hope to see many friends at this event, and would like to meet new Islander owners as well. As this is an American long weekend we hope to see many boats from south of the 49th! Our terrific logo (coming in March!) comes compliments of I-28 owner Pandora Nash-Karmer who runs a graphic design & marketing company called Pandora & Company. She has done the logos for our events since day one in 2005 and has also created logos for the San Francisco All-Islander Rendezvous. Look for it to be popping up on various items at the rendezvous! If you want to customize something, you can download the logo, then print it on an iron-on transfer page, and apply it to shirts or other items. Here's a link to a file big enough to give you a pretty good image on most anything: Big Logo. For the really creative, here's a link to a page of logos for different size Islanders: Islander logos. If you are thinking of attending this event, please use the reservation form below. We need to know numbers so that we can arrange for the appropriate food for Saturday night and Sunday morning. We are also planning to make up boat information sheets similar to past years and if we could receive the Information Form as posted on this web page, it would make our work far more efficient. I will be posting more information as July approaches. ______________________________________________________________________ For additional detail or questions, contact event Coordinators Bert & Carey Vermeer - bvermeer@shaw.ca Natasha |
