Summer Sailstice 2018 at EYC

(If you like, you can skip down through the prose and go straight to the pictures below!)

It was over 100 degrees inland, but at Encinal Yacht Club there was just enough sea breeze to make it toasty but not uncomfortable. As started recently, EYC did a beautiful job of celebrating Summer Sailstice. Our own member and past Officer Bill Nork (Zenith) is also the President of the EYC Board this year.

There were sailing related events all day starting at 11:00AM. There were demonstrations, free boat rides, classic wood boats, a cardboard boat building contest, lots of pool related activities going on and vendor booths where you could get info, clothing and Dark 'n Stormys with Goslings rum. EYC's huge pool was teaming with activities for grownups and kids alike, and some jumped in with their PFDs to test them. Many brought swim suits and towels, on the hottest day of the year so far, and, of course, it's Solstice so we got to enjoy the longest Saturday of the year too!

There was live music all day, a small boat regatta, paddleboard and kayak demonstrations, and the beautifully preserved National Park Service' Alma at the dock and open for tours for all to enjoy. The Coast Guard was scheduled to give a live helicopter rescue demonstration in the waters right outside the Club, but was called to a real emgergency.

The cardboard boat races were one of the highlights of the day, starting just after 1600. Check out the humorous pictures below!

Bill Nork with Zenith was one of 4 Encinal members who took members of the public out sailing in the estuary. Every ride was filled, with perhaps 100 people getting out to sail. We all had a number of the public asking questions and touring the boats on their way to or from their sailing adventures.

The Islander 36 fleet was tied up 4 strong to the dock right in the middle of all of it! In total we had xx boats represented by ZZ folks. It was a fun afternoon to catch up and enjoy all the festivities.

We assembled in the EYC bar for cocktails at 1730, then at 1830 YY moved to the dinig room for a fine EYC dinner selected by Bill & Susan Nork.

It was a great weekend. Here's the list of Islanders, and enjoy the pictures.
