Fall Meeting & Winners Dinner 11/8/25

(If you like, you can skip down through the prose and go straight to the pictures below!)

A perfect, warm and blue-sky sunny Saturday set the stage for our 2025 Fall Meeting and Winners Dinner at Richmond Yacht Club. Twelve Islander 36s were represented by 24 people for the meeting, and 20 adjourned to the Hotel Nac in Pt. Richmond for dinner. Luna Sea, Kapai and Zenith, under new owners Anthony and Joanne Taylor graced the Richmond docks to show off for the world.

A lively Attitude Adjustment gathering started on the Richmond uppder deck around 1530, and we all adjourned down below to the Regatta Room for the meeting shortly after 1600.

All of the I-36 tyrophies and awards were on full display and Commmodore Egan led a lively and intereactive presentation for the group. This year's winners were:

The Spinnaker Division Season's Championship Ormand Cup went to Dan Knox, Luna Sea.
The Non-Spinnaker Buster Hammond Half Hull went to Rick Egan, Kapai.
The Nationals Trophy went to Rich & Tom Shoenhair, Windwalker.
The Perpetual Crew Award went to Bryce Egan aboard Kapai. There is a great pictgure below of Bryce and Martha Robinson, the first winner of the Crew Award in 2004!
The Nationals Trophy went to Rich & Tom Shoenhair, Windwalker.
The Winton Cruising Award went to Dan Throop, WindCatcher.
The Bill Higdon Racing/Cruising Award had not been given for several years, and we had asked 4 time winner John Melton of Freedom Won to make this year's presentation, but John couldn't make it at the last minute, so Dan Knox presented the award to Rob Blenderman, WHite Horses, for his showing up for both racing and cruising events - most often skippering Luna Sea for Dan. The Schneider Trophy for outstanding contributions to the Islander 36 Association went to Kerry Scott for his organization of the successful Vallejo Cruise and representing the I-36 in the Pacific Cup.
And the Commodore's Plaque was updated with Rick Egan's name to the new format for for 2022 - 2025, thus being recorded as the Commodore for the 50th year of the Association!

A surprise announcement was awarding Rick Van Mell with the Lifetime Honorary Membership Award for his more than 20 years as officer and Webmaster.

Commodore Egan then addressed our 2026 Officer salte - with several openings available to willing volunteers for Vice Commodore, Secretary, Race and Cruise Chairs and PICYA Representative. Those nominated were unanimously approved. (Anyone voting "No" would automatically be placed in one of the vacant positions. )

So enjoy the pictures, then plan to join us New Year's Day, Thursday, January 1st, 2026 for the 'Round Alameda Parade. New Year 2026 tide prediction, at 8.1 feet, is very good for a morning/early lunch visit to Aeolian Yacht Club to enjoy their wonderful Chili, Cornbread, Bloody Mary's and Gin Fizzes. Then continue out under the Bay Farm Bridge into the South Bay to circumnavigate the Island. But don't dawdle too long as by 1600 it's a jaw-dropping -1.4' low tide getting back into your home marina.
