Giants Baseball 8/10/19

(If you like, you can skip down through the prose and go straight to the pictures below!)

Saturday, August 10th, was the annual Islander 36 annual Giants Baseball Game get together. We had 10 of us from the Serenity crew for the fun.

Greg headed up with me on Serenity in essentially zero wind to South beach where we had a nice quiet spot nestled in between two big power boats. Roger, Susan, Charles and a neighbor couple showed up as we came in. Roger signed Serenity in at the marina office (Thank You!).

Once we were moored, Greg tidyed up the boat (a great help!) and I went up to the Java House to meet the rest if the crew. From there I went up to the Willy Mays statue on the other side of the stadium to meet with John and Nancy Melton to collect the extra tickets and meet up with Nancy O'Malley, Rebecca, and my mother Miriam. John went to find the seats while the rest of us headed down to the Java House to join Roger and company for some lunch before the game.

After a nice "burger and fries" lunch we wandered up to our seats which were on the third deck right at first base. It was a beautiful warm sunny day with the clouds just breaking up as the game started. We lucked out that it was a give away game with all of us getting "Karl" Fog Globes. The seats were perfect giving us shade just after the first pitch.

The game was great with lots of good action including stand up doubles, home runs, and double plays. After the 3rd inning, Rebecca, Charles, and his neighbors wandered off to look around the stadium and showed up four innings later after getting caught in the crowd. Nancy took off a little later returning with a lemonade and vodka for yours truly (perfect for the nice warm weather). During the game we could see the Interclub race going on in the background. The normal crowd in McCovy Cove was wandering around as well, including a paddle boarder dressed up like a dinosaur. It was a fun fast game with the final score of 3-1 just icing on the cake.

Miriam headed home while the rest of us went over to the South Beach Yacht Club to get a drink and enjoy the view. Once we had a chance to relax the tough decision of where to have dinner came up and after some ideas got batted around we settled on going to one of the oldest restaurants in the city, Charles idea of the Tadich Grill. I can't even remember the last time I had been there. The food was amazing with everybody starting with Tadich's amazing crab cakes then raving about their individual dishes. From there we split up with everybody heading home except me. I crashed on the boat for a nice relaxing evening. Roger, Susan, and Lucy (their dog) came by in the morning to drop off Greg for the trip back and to enjoy a nice breakfast at the Java house. The trip finished up the way it started with Greg and I driving the boat back down to Coyote Point in almost no wind. A great way to spend a weekend.

For those of you who couldn't make it you missed a great afternoon. Hopefully we will see you next time.
