America's Cup Park Tour 8/29/13 |
In the break between the Louis Vuitton and the Red bull Junior America's Cup series, Sandy & I dashed up to San Francisco and grabbed some pictures of America's Cup Park. This is the newly rebuilt Pier 27/29 area that serves as the public AC headquarters. It is located on the east shore of the City and where the finish line of the AC racing is located. As you can see in the first picture, the bulk of the racing is on the north side of the City. Since most of the best viewing is on big screen TV with all the graphics and commentary, there are lots of screens around AC Park.
The super-yachts berthed on the southeast side of the pier were worth the trip alone. there is a super yacht series scheduled for the lay day of the AC series. Might be some of the most impressive sailing of the whole thing.
Our overall impression was that it was very nicely put together but seemed more upscale selling of sponsors stuff than chock full of great sailing. After the America's Cup, the pier will become the home dock for Princess Cruise Line ships.
