Cheetah's Cockpit Bench

Brian Arthurs sails his I-36 Cheetah from Pleasant Harbor, Washington, on the Hood Canal section of Puget Sound.

As Brian tells it, "My first mate Bruce was tired of sitting on the rudder post of our converted wheel I-36. Hence, he devised a solution - the Bruce Helm Seat.

It adds comfort, visability and temporary storage space below the seat. It is very light weight and can be folded up vertically against the pushpit."

Bench builder Bruce Klock adds, "I made the cross beams and top slats out of mahogany and the bottom slats out of yellow cedar. The slats are 3/8" so the bench is very light. The curve is sawn with a band saw and the curve matches that of the pushpit so it can be used as a back rest is desired in rough weather.

Brian noted, "Bruce is willing to build others for a nominal fee to improve the breed. If anyone has questions, contact me (Brian) at 360-531-1598. Or, you can contact Bruce at bruce94@live.com or 360-379-9141."
