Coyote Point Cruise August 7-9, 2009 |
(If you like, you can skip down through the prose and go straight to the pictures below!)
All concerns of fog were dispelled when the Islander group assembled at the mouth of the Estuary on Friday noon. Ophira, Natural High, Luna Sea, Freedom Won, headed south on a beautiful sail to Coyote Point. Following in their wake were Kindred Spirits, Woodbine, and Pacific High. One of those "Perfect days for Sailing" that makes all the work and effort, which goes along with a sail boat, well worth the time and hard work.
Keeping with tradition, Snowflower left early Friday morning and was on hand to help dock the boats as they arrived. Zen was a later arrival along with Pegasus. Rich Watters from Tacoma Blue came by car. So a total of 11 boats were represented Friday.
All boats were met by Glenn Zimmerman(Dayna Marie) with nicely appointed totes.
Harry and Carol had a wine tasting party with everyone bringing their favorite
Hors d'oeurve, challenging every one to test their expertise at identifying and rating the wines.
A fine dinner of salmon or prime rib followed. Assisting was Jocelyn Swanson (our new racer Zingara) .
A Bill Higdon martini toast was made to our beloved Bill Higdon who, at 90, made his exit from this world. Bill was an Islander 36 icon. He will be sorely missed but not forgotten. Many "Bill" stories circulated throughout the weekend.
Snowflower left early Sat. to pick up their granddaughter. The empty berth was quickly filled in with Brigid and White Horses. Bringing the grand total of boats represented to 13. Also attending were old friends and former Islander owners, Fred and Barbara Cucksey.
Sat afternoon several of the group visited the Coytoe Point Museum to watch the sea otter feeding and a wildlife presentation.
Sat. night was "Cook your own entrée with potluck ". Again, Glenn was everywhere making sure that all of our needs (real or imagined) were met. Movies or Bingo were available, but the members decided to call it a night after dinner in order to get an early departure.
And for the grand finale, - on Sunday morning Glenn delivered a Sunday paper personally to all of the boats. What a guy!!! WE love you Glenn!!
On the way home, Woodbine experienced some difficulty with its water pump near Hunters Point. However, they were in good hands. Harry, from Pacific High was there with his wrench while Natural High and Ophira stood by for back up.
What a great weekend. And what a great venue!! Coyote Point gets a thumbs up and we plan to include them in future schedules. The Islander Assn also donated $250 to their junior sailing program.
Great weekend!!
