Coyote Point Cruise
August 13-15, 2010

(If you like, you can skip down through the prose and go straight to the pictures below!)

Friday am began with the usual summer pattern with fog in the morning burning off by noon. The tide was ebbing with the winds gusting up to 20. There were spots of less wind all the way to CPYC, with the wind shifting at times.

Snowflower got an early start and went on ahead with Pacific High, Ophira and Luna Sea meeting up at the mouth of the Oakland Estuary and Woodbine following about 45 minutes out. Sailing was sporadic with winds dying and changing direction, but we were all tied up by 3 pm. We were happy to see that all boats had a side-tie and arrived in the following order; Snowflower, Ophira, Pacific High, Luna Sea and Woodbine.

After all our hugs and greetings everyone was settled in and all of a sudden it was time for an attitude adjustment. That was accomplished at the CPYC bar with welcoming from Glenn Zimmerman, SV Dana Marie, and member of the CPYC, and the I36 Ass'n. Dennis and Judy Bush of Natural High, and co-chairs, arrived by car with munchies to share with all. Natural High is waiting for some major engine work before she'll be back in service. Sad. We continued to chat for awhile and then moved to downstairs for a pot luck.

We had a full dining room and kitchen and bar-b-ques for our exclusive use. What a great club ! Knockwurst, Bratwurst and hamburgers were cooking on the grill while we set up a large array of salads. We even had sauerkraut, and an assortment of mustards and condiments. We always have more than enough delicious food and enough to feed an "army", it seems. Yum yum!

Saturday was a "sleep-in" kind of day with the low fog and the planes arriving at a fast pace. The planes seemed to appear magically from out of the fog for arrival at SFO Airport...fun to watch. Gary said he watched Friday night as the planes arrived through the fog at night, but this time they had their landing lights on and Gary & Pat got a surrealistic light show for free !

We awakened at various times on Sat. morning to find fog ...what a surprise ! Everyone had breakfast on their boats, except Skipper and Nancy who walked over to the Golf Club and ate there. Late morning arrived and Michelle Williams and her friend Matt drove in to spend the day.

Carol Williams brought some games for the group and soon everyone was practicing their tossing and throwing/rolling skills on the bean bag toss and Bocce ball. Friendly competition began and Carol even brought prizes for the winners!

As we were setting up for a picnic lunch pot luck, The Irish Rogue , with Gary Connors singlehanding , arrived and tied up on the end slot. Soon after, Gypsy arrived with skipper Jim Callahan and crewmember Bob aboard. We had filled all the side-ties at this point, so, Gypsy tied alongside Luna Sea. The new arrivals joined us for lunch along with Fred and Barbara Cucksey, who arrived by car. After lunch and games we retired to our boats to visit with others or just to relax on the sunny afternoon. Time to rest up for the big Luau !

Saturday evening was upon us and we all convened at the CPYC bar for another attitude adjustment session. The chef had arrived early in the day to put the whole pig on to cook in a special "pig box" designed specifically for the task. So... while the pig was roasting in the box, we partied on. We were joined with new arrivals for the evening. Corky and Anna Stewart, of Brigid, drove in, as did John and Nanci Melton, of Freedom Won, followed by Robert Aston, of Pegasus, and Dennis & Judy Bush, of Natural High, who re-joined us for the festivities.

The pig was done now and was carried to the dining room on a rack and moved to a large cutting board. Glenn and friends cut & sliced it all up and all the side dishes were put on the buffet table for the meal to begin. The pig was very moist and oh so very delicious!

After the tasty meal, we were treated to some Hawaiian music and beautiful girls dancing the Hula and Tahitian Tamare. Then the girls went into the crowd and encouraged some to come and join them for impromptu Hula lessons. I think we'll just stick with the pretty and talented girls.

All retired at a reasonable hour because we needed to leave before 8 am to get through the low tide, with a 5 ft. shoal, (according to Glenn Zimmerman), at the mouth of the channel.

At 7:45 am most were up and ready to take off. Pacific High started the departure and got "slightly stuck " momentarily while turning around. Harry persisted and made it out. Woodbine was already turned around, so had no problem, and went out without any problems. They were followed by Snowflower and Ophira and we were all on our way home. We never saw Dan on Luna Sea or Gary on The Irish Rogue...they were probably getting their much needed "beauty rest" ! Jim and Bob walked up to the Golf Club for breakfast and probably by time they got back to their boat the" beauty kings" were awake.

A great time was had by all and we would like to thank Carol Williams, Dennis and Judy Bush, and Glenn Zimmerman for doing such a great job in organizing our cruise and making it a memorable occasion! Thanks to you'all.
