Emery Cove Cruise, August 9-11, 2013 |
(If you like, you can skip down through the prose and go straight to the pictures below!)
It was a great weekend of watching America's Cup racing and chilling out. Thirteen folks representing seven Islanders enjoyed the sunnny skies and cool breezes downwind of the Golden Gate at Emery Cove Marina. It's a short hop around Treasure Island from the leeward gate mark of the America's cup course to the marina, so it ws a natural to spend Friday afternoon watching the race, then heading on over to the marina.
Friday evening dinner was a short walk to a nice pasta place, where pizza was the featured entree of the evening. That was fine for Gary & Pat, Dennis & Judy, John & Nnaci and Skipper and Nancy and their son Scott. Why Dennis even allowed how cold pizza for breakfast is a pretty good thing!
Saturday was another great day to watch what becase the final race of the Louis Vuitton Semi-Finals series as Luna Rossa made it 4 - 0 eliminating Artemis Racing from the competition. But that left lots to talk about as the whole fleet gathered in the marina.
Your Islander Association is very well represented among the volunteers working as Course Marshalls for the whole America's Cup series: Gary & Pat Salvo (Ophira) operate one boat; Dennis & Judy Bush (Natural High) run another; Michele Williams & husband Matt (Pacific High) are also out there, as is Harry Farrell (Pacific High). Pat was saying there are about 200 volunteers among the course marshalls and race committee volunteers, and that about another 300 were turned away. Incredible logistics to keep it all running smoothly.
Our TV stars kept up their fame and fortune which they started in October. We're talking, of course, about Gary & Pat Salvo. When Oracle ingloriously capsized last October and the footage was run over and over, Gary & Pat were in the RIB in the picture. Well, they've done it again. In Race 3 of the LV Semi-finals there is a spectacular super-zoom of Luna Rossa blasting around the leeward mark still up on foils --- and wouldn't you know it, right there looking through bertween her hulls are Gary & Pat, a little yellow and grey spot. If you'd like to see it live, go to the YouTube America's Cup challenge and bring up Race 3 of the Semi-Finals and fast forward to 1 hour and 16 minutes. That will set you up for their flash appearance at 1:16:25.
