September 4 - 6, 2004 Half Moon Bay Cruise |
(If you like, you can skip down through the prose and go straight to the pictures below!)
Forecasts for big seas and light following winds with a departure time of 0600 didn't dampen the enthusiasmof xx Islanders that headed out the Golded Gate for Half Moon Bay. Going most of the way under power, the fleet was safely tied to mooring cans in the outer harbor well before noon. Most boats took single moorings, but Freedom Won, John & Nanci Melton, had a friendly Catalina rafted alongside, while Evanescence, Smokey & Laurie Stover, rafted up with the I-36 Whitehorse. Among the single mooring crowd were Cruise Coordinator (and Cruising Chair) Dennis, Judy and Matt Bush on Natural High, Chris, Kelley & Claire on Spindrift, Ron & Karen Damsen on Woodbine, and Brian & Fran Jacobs on Endeavor. Harry Farrell started out on Pacific High but turned back when his engine started overheating a couple of miles outside the Gate. Those arriving by land-yacht included Peter & Lousia Szasz (Midnight Sun), Roger and Linda McClellan (4 Our Sanity), and Rick & sandy Van Mell (Vanishing Animal).
Endeavor hosted a great afternoon cocktail party on Saturday before everyone headed ashore for dinner. The Half Moon Bay Yacht Club cookout was slow to get started, but that just left more time for a bit more liquid refreshment.
Sunday was a scheduled Luau, then the fleet had another light-weather day mostly motoring back to the Gate on Monday. At least there were no bashing headwinds to fight!
Our pictures are pretty much self explanatory this time around - the major sections are the early morning departure;cocktail hour Saturday; a little beach time; and the gentle parade back home.
