Islander 36 Nationals
Saturday-Sunday October 9-10, 2004
Esteemed Islander 36 Skippers, Crew and Families,
I want to warmly thank everyone involved with this weekend’s regatta, including the skippers and crews who raced, the families who support their passion for sailing, the San Francisco Yacht Club whose Race Committee did a splendid job of setting up a great race course and managing the races (way to go Bartz and Anne!), and our sponsors, Svendsen’s Boat Yard and Harken for the great T shirts.
This regatta included competitive racing in beautiful conditions: blue sky, warm sunshine, wind in the teens and a relatively calm sea state. We also had the added bonus of catching a few glimpses of the Canadian Snowbirds military flight demonstration team flying high over the Bay for Fleet Week.
I want to congratulate the skippers and crews for helping to promote and grow the strength and spirit of the Islander 36 fleet. Special congratulations are also due to Peter Szasz, and his crew on Midnight Sun for their first place finish. I now have the honor of getting Peter’s name engraved on the Islander 36 Association Nationals Perpetual Trophy. It’s a big plaque with a full model of Chimo, Chuck Winton’s Islander. The trophy is in memory of Chuck and the 1980 Islander fleet.
Sylvia and Barry Stompe deserve special recognition for giving Peter a real run for his money and placing a very close second.
Jim Robinson and his wife Martha placed third; sailing DOUBLE HANDED! I think Jim and Martha should get a special award for that!
Full results are shown below, and pictures below are compliments of Lou Zevanov.
I now look forward to our Fall Meeting at the St. Francis Yacht Club on November 20th and next season.
Lastly, please check out the proposed 2005 Racing Schedule, it’s available at: http://islander36.org/05race.html
Sincerely,
Joseph Krensavage
