Lots of goodies on the grill for Friday night as 5 Islanders gathered for a fun weekend at Pt. San Pablo Yacht Club tucked away at the north end of the Richmond Channel. It started off a bit rough for Woodbine whose engine went out shortly after getting under way. Pacific High picked them up and towed them all the way to Pt. San Pablo YC.
Friday nighters included Woodbine, Ron & Karen Damsen, Pacific High, Harry Farrell & Carol Williams, plus Michele Williams & Jimme Moller, Snowflower, Skipper & Nancy Wall and that "super Islander" Because (Benateau 45) Tim, Rhonda & Ian Shea plus friend Barrett. Bruce & Carol Hunter, Escape arrived by car to round out the Friday crowd.
Add Tacoma Blue, Rich & Takae Watters, Paradesia, Rick Vulliet, and Brigid, Corky & Anna Stewart plus Anna's sister, arriving by boat, and Vanishing Animal, arriving by car on Saturday. That brings the total to 9 boats represented. 4 R Sanity and Zen were also planning to come by car - don't know if they showed up at the end of the day.
Pumpkin carving started in earnest at 1300. Carol Williams, with help from Harry and Michele, had pumpkins and decorations for everyone, and kids and adults alike turned out a great variety of designs. Aided by fine libations from the PTSPYC bar and participation by PTSPYC members the time flew by as pumpkin parts splattered hither and yon. But, by the 3:00 pm deadline, 10 great pumpkins were set out on the judging table for all to admire.
Michele ran the judging, asking for applause from the assembled jury. Of course the cries and screams from the kids for their creations topped the audio scale! But some semblance of justice prevailed and every kid got a prize, everyone got recognition, and the final tallies gave 3rd place to Tim Shea, 2nd place to Rich Watters, and 1st place, and the grand prize package of 4 wine bottles, to Ron & Karen Damsen from Woodbine. Be sure to laugh along with the videos of the judging down in the middle of the pictures.
Harry and Jimmy fired up the grill and before long smokin', steamin', spicy long dogs and toasted buns were flying fast. Piled high with great chunky chili, ketchup, mustard and relish, there was hardly room on the plate for orange dusted pumpkin sugar cookies or wonderful red ropes of licorice. Washed down with a draft of Bass Ale or Guinness from the fine PTSPYC bartender, it became dinner at 4:00 pm! Everyone decided they didn't need to order in dinner after that!
On Sunday, George from PSPBYC took Woodbine over to KKMI with his skiff. George and Rear Commodore Ellie Naill were great hosts along with Glenda and the PSPBYC bartenders. Let's see .... this was a Halloween theme, the Harbor Assistant Glenda's card says "She Who Must Be Obeyed ", so does that make her "The Good Witch Glenda!"
