Season Closer
September 9-10, 2006

It was perfect weather for the ODCA season closer, and the Corinthian Yacht Club ran an excellent regatta.

Saturday was a site to behold, as 3 large fleets raced in the Knox area. The ODCA fleet held 2 races there; The Islands tour used the same windward mark to start their race; and the Leukemia Cup hosted by SFYC was held nearby in Racoon straits.

Saturday night at CYC was very enjoyable, with a choice of beef stew or grill your own burgers and conviviality at the bar. 4 Islanders overnighted there, Freedom Won, Kapai, Pacific High and Tomcat, as well as Absolute who resides there.

Sunday morning was clear and calm. The Sunday race by Southampton Soals was delayed awhile, then a nice 8-10 knot breeze filled in. We had 2 races around temporary buoys, then Freedon Won, Tomcat and Absolute headed back to the club to celebrate the end of a very competitive and enjoyable year of racing.

We enjoyed lovely weather and companionship on the CYC deck, as well as a surprise visit from a family of otters, a mother and 2 babies. We watched them catch and eat a fish and a crab.

The season ends with Tomcat in First place, Absolute second, Pacific High third, and special mention for Captain Hook, who surged from the back of the fleet to place fourth in the series. They will be a boat to watch next year!
