5th Canadian All Islander Rendezvous Telegraph Harbour Marina Thetis island, BC July 9-11, 2010 |

A record breaking heat wave finally backed off a little on Friday afternoon as Islanders gathered at Telegraph Harbour Marina on Thetis Island, BC for the 4th Canadian All Islander Rendezvous. With about 60% returning boats from previous years and 40% new, there were many old and new friendships to rekindle or kindle. Shirts and logos from previous rendezvous were in abundance. From 28 feet to 41 feet, a whole range of Islanders filled the docks.
Bert & Carey Vermeer once again organized a terrific event. Thanks to them for all their effort to get people lined up, boat information cards and name tags for all, and a warm welcome when they arrive. All the details flow so easily. The cakes are tucked into Natasha's icebox on Friday morning; 10 heads of lettuce for salad; 3 giant bags of potatoes - plain, onion, and onion with garlic, sliced, oiled and foil wrapped; garlic bread; forks and plates, and then there's the welcome packet. Each boat gets their history, with the rendezvous logo, a folder and ties to hang on the lifelines. Name tags too. Really a first class rendezvous!

Friday evening was a nice dockside potluck of appies (appetizers to you US folks) served up on small portable TV trays and many bringing out soft chairs too. Of course there were some beverages available, including bottles labeled with Pandora's beautiful 2010 Rendezvous logo on their labels. Plenty of visiting as the light lingered until 2130 - then time for a good night's rest.
Saturday was a quiet morning as Frendy and Tatoosh arrived and joined the crowd. Trixie was the flagship dog aboard Natasha, but had companionship from Maddy & Marshall on Wild Hare, Murphy from Tatoosh, and Bob & Karen's little dog too. Other canines on visitng boats rounded out the four-footed crew.
Sandy Van Mell rounded up Sharon & Harry Dorsten (Movin' Spirit) and Sylvia & Gil Shaw (Irish Cream) for a driving tour of Thetis. They found the Coffee factory, the glass blower and more. Wonderful views punctuated their trip as they covered most of the island.

We've got most of the pictures in, but we'll try to add a short video of Tom's farewell conch blast, and some more description of the weekend's events.
