Treasure Island Cruise 9/27/14 |
(If you like, you can skip down through the prose and go straight to the pictures below!)
A perfect day for a cruise! Bright sun, gentle breeze (for San Francisco Bay) and a wonderufl mix that represents the best of the Islander Association. Nine boats were represented by 25 people. The great big Flea Market was fun for all. Especially good to have on board were our Bay Area Association of Disabled Sailors (BAADS) representing their I-36 Orion.
There was even some super shopping as Pat Salvo declined a $500 bid on two chairs, that Kathryn picked up for $600 -- the thing was, the guy selling was supposed to have been asking $600 for EACH chair. When the owner found out, he agreed to respect what his employee had done. Sandy came away with a pierced steel drum top with stars and a mermaid. And others picked up nicknacks along the way.
It was all set agianst the double backdrop of the (usual) San Francisco skyline, and the imposing new eastern span of the Bay Bridge, with the (being demolished) old bridge in the background.
From 1600 to 1700 most of us relaxed aboard Mischief before heading up to Treasure Island Yacht Club for a delicious dinner. They did a great job with steaks and salmon, with generous sides and even dessert.
A special thanks to Co-Cruise Chair Ruby Blenderman who thought of the idea way back in 2013.
So enjoy the pictures, and see you as competitors or spectators next week at the Nationals Regatta.
