Treasure Island Flea Market Cruise 2015 |
(If you like, you can skip down through the prose and go straight to the pictures below!)
Morning coastal drizzle gave way to beautiful sunshine and a typical summer day on San Francisco Bay. Enough wind to keep cool and enough sun to keep warm.
Five boats were represented by 11 people. The great big Flea Market was fun for all. Items ranged from true "flea market" stuff from anyone's garage, to beautifully crafted works in stone, glass, metal and even bone and everything in between. Everyone enjoyed browsing, the women in particular, and even buying was restrained!
Treasure Island Yacht Club provided great hospitality with good and reasonably prices beverages, a well-cooked burger dinner with corn done on the grill, and toped off with bartender Connie's home made chocolate/peanut butter trifle and a banana cream refrigerator cake toped with strawberries and drizzled with dark chocolate! To die for!
All of Treasure Island is about to be renovated starting at the end of the year. TIYC will be moving to a section of the old original Pam Am building, and several TI officers offered a walk down to the old building. In one of the old cavernous buildings some giant creations from Burning Man festivals are being created or stored. These mammoth and creative structures featured flashing lights, motors and soaring figures. If you're not familiar with the artistic/counter culture Burning Man festival heldwith over 50,000 people in the dessert north of Reno, NV over Labor Day, follow this link: http://burningman.org/event/.
In one of the pictures you can see the dock-side welcome geese left for Vanishing Animal. though not a goose was in sight when we arrived, the dock was essentially covered in goose-poop. A good ten minutes of heavy hosing cleared it off. However, as we turned in for the evening just after dusk, the cries of geese flying by filled the air. Flashlight beams revealed a flock on the water. About every half hour a honk or two sounded close as they neared the dock to check us out. Even at 2300, it took yet another sweep of the flashlight beam to discourage them -- and this time we counted 48 of them!
A special thanks to Cruise Coordinators Dennis & Judy Bush, and Cruise Chair Ruby Blenderman who first thought of the idea way back in 2013.
So enjoy the pictures, and plan to join us next year for another great Treasure Island Flea Market Cruise.
